January Studio Rent Edition, January 10th, 2012, 10:41 pm

The studio rent editions are a monthly edition series that subsidizes the cost of my studio in Long Island City. Each month I make a new small work that is printed as an edition of ten, and sold for $34USD each.

Some old editions are available here.

The new edition for January is available here.

January’s edition is a still from this Youtube video for New Order’s Leave Me Alone:

And now, into the meat of the thing. Good luck with your continuing endeavor, David!! You know we think about you all the time. The song is pretty less than excellent, however.

This link takes you to Kathleen Supové playing “Same Sky” on MySpace. Supové will premier in Los Angeles this piece at her Piano Spheres recital on January 31 (with video accompaniment by Joshue Ott) , along with four additional LA premiers composed by Anna Clyne, Lainie Fefferman, Michael Gatonska and Niel Rolnick (with video by R. Luke Dubois)

Anna Clyne’s “On Track,” which Supové will also play, and Clyne’s band page on Facebook so that you listen to more tracks, and so you may “like” her, as you should.

Before I forget, here is Piano Sphere’s website: http://pianospheres.org/

Jacaranda music has a concert this Saturday in Santa Monica. Music by Henri Dutilleux, Kaija Saairiaho, Toru Takemitsu and Chinary Ung.

(Toru Takemitsu : all in twilight played by Yutthasak A. Komjornkijborworn, thai guitarist at University for music freiburg, germany)

Michael Kudirka will be playing Takemitsu’s guitar piece for Jacaranda.

Most urgently, music of Steve Reich will be played tonight, Tuesday, at Disney Hall by the LA Phil New Music Group. Yay!!! “Clapping Music,” “Piano Phase/Video Phase,” “2×5,” and “Music for Eighteen Musicians.” This should get the blood flowing in some people’s veins. Tickets are still available, or are as of this writing.

I do believe this is a brief sample of what you may see and hear tonight.

Bang On A Can will be playing tonight, here they rehearse with Reich.

  1. Hi, thanks for the post of Kathleen Supové’s upcoming Piano Spheres concert on January 31. Just wanted to note that Eric Wenger is the video artist for my piece, ‘The Same Sky’ not Joshue Ott. Maybe he worked on one of the other pieces – I hope so – his work is fascinating!

  2. Oh thank you, Carolyn!! I appreciate this correction. It is a thrill to hear from you. I look forward to the recital.

  3. Absolutely, and, I’m happy to hear you will be attending! I’m excited about this concert because I am born in LA, yet, this will be the first performance ever of my music in my hometown… Be sure to say hello!
