Artist Curated Projects “Two Halves”
Artist Curated Projects “Two Halves” work by Farrah Karapetian and RJ Messineo. This edition of ACP is hosted by Calvin Phelps and Clay Russell at their home. 3747 Latrobe Street, Los Angeles, CA 90031 Reception is Thursday, Nov 4 from 5 to 8 PM. The show is open by appointment through Nov 14.
Showing work in a home is tricky. That these two artists each make architectural disruption and investigation part of of their practice has me excited to see what they do for the show.
I think of Messineo’s sculptures and paintings, they often resemble building bits laden with history and with possibilities for personal memory. Her work seems to invite my investment of personal feeling. That invitation intrigues me. My interior monologue goes something like this, “Is my emotional response to this work (and by extension other paintings) coming from an assumption I hold of artistic intent that really doesn’t exist? What happens to this work when I let it be, when I ask what it wants me to see?”
It’s 1 PM, lunch is over. More later.
